Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko is disputing a Huffington Post story posted late Friday that cites an unnamed source in his department as saying a hoax is not being “ruled out” in Sherri Papini’s kidnapping investigation.
“Based on information we have, there’s no reason to believe this is not legitimate,” Bosenko said. “Since speaking to Papini, based on information we’ve received, we believe her. We believe that this was an abduction.”
Investigators are still trying to determine exactly what happened to the mother of two when she disappeared earlier this month.
Police investigators have apparently not ruled out the possibility that something is awry in the disappearance of Sherri Papini, a California mom who was reunited with her family on Thanksgiving after she was found bound and beaten along a California highway.
“I don’t know if the words ‘ruled out’ can be used,” a spokeswoman for the Shasta County sheriff’s office told The Huffington Post on Friday, when asked if authorities suspected a hoax.
